Mission

The mission is to organize and employ Naval Power oriented to protect the Maritime interests, rivers, and lakes and to participate in the integral development of the country to contribute to the defense and pursue the objectives of national interest.

Leadership

The Commander of the Bolivian Navy is Admiral Jorge Badani Lenz since November 2000. Positions held during his career:

• Commander Naval Base Cobija
• Curriculum Head of the Naval Academy
• Commander of Marine Infantry Battalion "Independencia"
• Sub-Director of Department 3 (Operations) of the Bolivian Navy Naval Attache, Republic of Brazil
• Head of Intelligence Bolivian Navy
• Director of the Naval War College
• Chief of Staff

Issues of Primary Concern

Increased coordination with USMC and Bolivian Riverine forces outside Blue Devil Task Force.

Organization and Capabilities

The Bolivian Marine Corps is formed into 7 Battalions including Military Police with one Central Command of Amphibious Instruction (CICA) for advanced training. The number of personnel in the Marine Corps is constantly changed by conscript end of temporary service. The Marine Corps has the capability to conduct amphibious and over land operations with the Bolivian Army.

Weapons and Equipment

Organic fire support is provided by 81 mm mortars, 5.56 mm, and 7.62 mm arms. Amphibious vessels include 25 ft Boston Whalers, Rodman Class ships, and Zodiac boats.
